Portfolio > Designing an exemplary course

A colleague and I conducted an exploratory study to examine the 2006-2007 qualitative and quantitative data of our community college students enrolled in face to face (F2F) and online student orientation programs. The purpose of this study was to determine if the presence of an F2F orientation would increase the retention rates of students in an online course. The study also examines whether certain demographics will influence the retention rates of students in an online course.  The final implementation of the results of this research has positively affected the retention and success rates for our online students. Results of this research was presented at the America Association of Community College in in Philadelphia in 2008, Illinois Online Conference (2008) and at the Community College Student Survey Engagement in Buffalo, New York 2009.  Click here to read a brief introduction about our research.
