As the administrator Dawson Technical Institute of Kennedy-King Colleges, one of my missions was to tackle the low student success and retention rates. At the time, data showed that the overall student retention and success rate were averagely around 50 percent. One of my first missions was to analyze the data and come up with ways to turn things around. Meeting with students and trying to find out reasons from dropping or not doing well in their various courses, I came up with an early alert system that we implemented as a team. At the end of the two years, our retention and success rates increased to 70% across board. This was possible because of the supports I received from faculty, staff who were more engaged and directly involved and made it as a mission to help students to achieve their academic laurels.
